In 2010, founder Rey Herrera co-hosted his friend’s baby shower. To stay within budget, Rey handmade 60+ candles as parting gifts. Guests were given instructions to light their candles during the labor, for well wishes.

Soon after, Rey was flooded with repeated requests asking, “Where did you buy those candles? I want more!”

With experience in mid-century modern design, crafting and retail sales, Rey decided to go into the candle business despite the seemingly oversaturated market.

Chilanthropy products are based on the theme and experiences of Rey’s world travels, recreating the journey for you to enjoy. A charity or worthy organization is then chosen to receive a portion of sales to honor the trip.

Currently residing in Los Angeles, Rey lives his life as eco and green as possible. (Yes, he drives a Prius!) At home he recycles, composts, and even keeps a worm farm turning discarded food and paper into rich fertilizer for the garden.

Chilanthropy has firm eco-conscious business practices to help offset our carbon footprint using local and recycled materials whenever possible.
